The Movies Post – Cinematic Goals

I know I am posting way too much. But nobody is reading so what do I care? Ben and I just watched ‘Stardust’. Very fine flick. A sort of Princess Bride for the new set. The Netflix Fairy brings me Disc One of The Tudors tomorrow. Which I eagerly anticipate.

It got me thinking. My favorite movies of 2007, in no particular order:

The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford
. Just take your Oscar and go home, Casey Affleck.

Ratatouille. Who knew?

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. The BEST movie HP so far. No doubt about it.

Superbad. Oh Superbad. You make me laugh, even though I shouldn’t.

Hairspray. Best use of the dollar theatre ever.

3:10 to Yuma. This re-ignited my love for Westerns.

Movies I Blew By Not Seeing in 2007
Gone Baby Gone
Elizabeth II: The Golden Age
Grace is Gone
Into The Wild
No Country for Old Men
Crazy Love
Waitress

Movies I Can’t Wait to see in 2008
Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince
HSM3
There Will Be Blodd
Miss Pettigrew (thanks to Frances)
Leatherheads…hopefully
Indiana Jones 4
Iron Man (thanks to Robert Downey Jr.)
Son of Rambow
Prince Caspian

2007 was also the year I emerged from some self-imposed movie desert and watched such classics as:
All About Eve
The Godfather Trilogy
Lonesome Dove
Kiss Kiss Bang Bang
Mystic River
Edward Scissorhands

All in all, not too bad. This year, I hope to watch:
Citizen Kane
Fargo
A few of Wes Anderson…I am trying to get over my hatred.
Before Sunrise/Before Sunset
The Outlaw Josey Wales
Magnolia
Annie Hall

These Guys…

Can you believe them? It’s pretty interesting. I think the Sass said it best, “He’s just the one who scares me the least.”

But it’s super interesting. I think people are sick of what is going on. I mean, no matter what your opinion is on war, etc. I think that people are sick of what is going on. Nobody wants to go to war, do they? Maybe I don’t know. Maybe people DO want to go to war. Surely not. No one talks about Bush, it seems. It’s like he doesn’t even exist. Weird.

Utter Boredom

This is how bored I am at work today.

Auld Lang Syne…You are so overrated.

2008 is upon us. I hate New Year’s. It is my second most despised holiday. After Valentine’s. But, I can’t help the parties and the resolutions. Just as, on St. Val’s Day, I can’t help hoping that my husband DID break down and actually by me something, even though I know it’s ridiculous.

I just can’t help it.

As the first hour of the last day of 2007 hits its stride, I am on webmd.com, frantically checking the symptoms of my absurd cold/flu thing. There is some sort of subterreanaen tumor on my face. I hope this is more of an indication on how the year will end, rather than how it will start.

Either way, I am wondering what 2008 might bring. I just can’t help it. I am wondering if, on January 31st of 2008, I will reflect on this moments. Laugh at my naivete. Marvel at my sheer incoherence. Mock my own light heart.

I downloaded some music. Some Peter Gabriel. Guster. Stephen Curtis Chapman. Should be great.

Well, I should get this over with. My New Year’s Resolutions (eh…):

1. Learn to pray
2. Stop being so fat

That’s all I’ve got right now. Just want to go to sleep.
